10 ideas you can use on your social media headers

Why should I like this social media business page?

Your social media header is one of the first things your potential customer notices when they are browsing your business page. The image has to be creative and inspire your customer. If your social media header isn’t unique and doesn’t grab their attention then they won’t want to delve deeper into your page.

But what can you put on your social media header that has impact and will connect with your potential customers?

Promote new products or services

Let your customers see what you do or what you sell in an instant. Make it easy for them to understand exactly what your business is and why they should follow you.

Promote a special offer

If you’re running a special offer, giving away a freebie or promoting a new book, give it a little extra promotion and put it in your header so it’s the first thing your potential customer sees when they land on your page. And it might be just the thing to entice them in.

Behind the scenes

Give your potential customer a glimpse behind the scenes at the real face (or faces) behind your business. Include an image of yourself (or other employees if you have them) as people buy from people and want to do business with people, not a faceless company.

Let people know who makes the products, who does the packing, who creates the designs. Or try a team photo if you have a few people working for you.

Your business in a single sentence

Make potential customers aware of what your business does quickly and easily. There’s nothing worse than landing on a page and having to scroll through post after post to figure out what they do.

You can include your logo and a graphic to give this header impact.

Appeal to the senses

This is especially useful if you work in the food industry as delicious imagery of food always captures our senses. But it can work for other industries, you just need to appeal to the senses of your super customer – beautiful scenery, gorgeous flowers, cosy rooms.

Inspire creativity in your customers

Can you inspire your customers to make something, to cook, to build?

If they buy a new product from you, can they make something from the old one rather than just throwing it away? Tap into the recycling/up-cycling vibe and make your business more eco friendly in the process.

This one has further potential as customers can tag your business or use a specially created hashtag (see next idea below)

Promote a hashtag

Create a hashtag specially for your business, for a promotion, for a product or service, and encourage customers to use it. Hashtags are getting used more and more, and make it easier for people to find you.

Feature your customers

Show how you value your customers and promote your products at the same time by featuring them using your products, ideally in a fun or engaging way. It’s a lovely way to thank your customers and help potential customers see how your products are being used.

Celebrate those special memories

Tell your customers a story fuelled by emotion or nostalgia – a happy wedding, children playing, a family day out. Nudge your customers into remembering that special occasion – emotions play a bigger part in buying than we might like to think.

Promote your other social media

Not everyone might be bothered about your favourite social media platform so let visitors follow you on their favourite platform – just let them know where else they can find you.

And finally

Always use the correctly sized header image for each different social media platform. They are all very similar but different enough to make your lovely design look odd because of the different crop. Header images also look different on computers, ipads and phones so be aware that certain parts of your social media header might not always show up.

Don’t forget to regularly update your social media headers to let customers know what is happening in your business.

I hope I’ve inspired you with a few different ways to promote your business on social media.
